Your voice,
a hoarse crow in the morning,
reaches me through the silence.
The trees shiver around me,
and my blood goes with them.
I want to fling words
lit up with fire.
Torches you may
catch in one root-like talon.

Todays featured poem is from Valentina Cano, a student of classical singing from Florida who spends all her spare time reading and writing. Short but sweet, this piece is a moment in time encapsulated perfectly. A dream-like poem, it captures that feeling upon waking that is almost ethereal in nature, mysterious and profound. A completely self-contained piece, it says all it needs to say, but leaves so much more hanging in the air to be mused upon by the reader.
